Back to civilization

Wow-  so the past few days I have been violentally ill on my death bed.  Luckily, I now seem to be recuuperating and digesting food again-  go me.

Before the flu rampage, I had managed to start work on my newest quilt!  (this was quite the accomplishment seeing as how my baby girl has been extra snuggly due to her never ending cold...... but lets be honest.. I don't really mind a snuggly baby :)  )

I am also excited that I joined a Quilt-a-Long with Vicki at Sew inspired !!  You should go check it out, and join yourself.  The pattern is sooo cute and just simple enough for this great fabric that I absolutely fell in LOVE with (Eva by Basic Grey for Moda).  Let's hope I have time in the next few days to get all the material cut out so I can get going!

Hope you're enjoying the "less" freezing weather where you are, and have an amazing weekend! :)

2010

Happy New Year!  What a year 2009 was...  most importantly....

My beautiful baby girl was born-  and now she's almost a year old!!  How time flies..

Second....

I found my love of quilting.  I'm so excited to see what 2010 brings.

Right now I am tending to a sick, sick baby, but hopefully will have some time to begin working on the quilt I just finished cutting pieces for.  Fingers crossed!

Also, I have been looking all morning for a Block Swap, but have been unable to find anything worth while.... any suggestions??

Until next time...

Homespun Holidays!

After much consideration, I've decided that the intended recipient of my first "real" quilt does not read this. So I'm posting my finished project!! It is far from perfect- and I could pick out plenty of places where there are mistakes/things I would change/random goldfish cracker pieces... but none the less, I am still pretty proud of it.

I also wanted to participate in Piece N Quilt's "Homespun Holidays!" Go over and check out their Blog and see what other great crafters are making!!

A big shoutout to Allison at Cluck Cluck Sew for the great tutorial !!! She has some great stuff over there- you should go check her out, too :)

Hope you're enjoying all your holiday preparations- I know I am!!

Secret Santa...

SO- I'm working on super secret Christmas things that I can't post- so instead.....

Here's something to get you into the Christmas spirit and a smile on your face... (well, at least it puts a smile on MY face!!)

I should be done with them within the next week.... yeah....... So then I can hopefully start showing off other projects. Until then............ Happy Holidays!!!

It's almost time!

..for Christmas! I would be lying if I said I hadn't already started celebrating a bit... but in my defense, having three stations here that have been playing Christmas music for two weeks is just a temptation that I cannot walk away from.

I have been working on a secret project, as soon as I can, I will post pictures! I don't have a lot of Christmas shopping to do this year... mainly because Joel and I don't have any money.. ha ha...

I have also been working on my purple quilt- and I wanted to make sure the tutorial I found would work.... and I think it is a success! I can't wait to see what this will look like when it's all done. One step at a time!

Happy quilting!

So Close!

So- I am SO close to being finished. I know, I move (quilt) slower than molasses... oh well! I finished quilting....... ok almost, I should hand quilt a few more stars in the middle.... but I just hate it so much!

I have assembled the binding and started to sew that on, and HOPEFULLY will be completely done with this quilt by the end of the week.
Of course, since I am prone to having lots of projects going on at once, here is a picture of the next quilt I will be working on. The lighting was terrible and I couldn't get a "good" picture of the actual colors. I will definitely be doing the http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2009/09/tutorial-double-hourglass-blocks-easy.html It looks soooooo cool, and I can't wait to see what it will look like when its complete.

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves, this is a lot of blogging for one day.... Until next time... !

So its been awhile...

Whoops! Even though no one really reads this, I feel as though I need to explain my absence. My family and I took a week long trip back home to NY, as my husband had fall break from school, and all of a sudden its been weeks since I updated! How time flies. Anywho, here I am. Back with a vengeance! Sort of.

I'd say I'm fifty percent done quilting my first quilt. It is slow going mainly because I don't seem to enjoy this part of the quilting process as much. Also, I am really bad at it. The good thing is a) this is my first one.... it can only get better..? b) I don't think my baby girl will notice my stitching is not straight, at least until later in life. I can deal with that.
I also got some really amazing fabric for a super secret project I'm going to start working on. Details to follow................. *muahahahahaha*

All play and no work....

....makes for a boring blog. I had a visitor for the weekend so alas, no quilting was accomplished (but lots of sweet treats were had!)

Before she arrived, I finished the top of my quilt! Very exciting.. even if its a bit boring. I think it will be a nice first quilt, simple, yet colorful! I already picked out the fabric for my next quilt and am eager to get it started!! I'm trying to decide what pattern I'm going to use. A blog I started to follow, http://www.cluckclucksew.com/ has a bunch of suuuuper useful tutorials, and there are two patterns that I am going back and forth between. I think in the end it will be her hourglass pattern. I can't wait to start!!

But first, I should attempt to finish what I have started (easier said than done in this household.) I'm nervous about the actual "quilting" of the quilt, and have been looking non stop for a good machine quilting tutorial with no luck. Perhaps all my hard work will pay off today- fingers crossed!

Slowly but surely

I've discovered it's quite difficult to get quilting done with a 9 month old crawling all over/picking up the pieces you're trying to put together. That being said, I have roughly an hour a day right now to "get down to business." Hopefully as she gets to be more self-sufficient, I will be able to quilt while she is playing! Today I pressed the blocks that I sewed together yesterday, and will be pinning/sewing them to the middle piece (fingers crossed) sometime today.

And so it begins

Here is my first venture into quilting. Thank you to Cheryl, my wonderful teacher. Let's see what else this week brings! I've started working on my first baby quilt, and so far so good. Cutting is complete, and sewing has commenced. Pictures to come soon. Keep your fingers (and maybe toes??) crossed. I'm certainly going to need the help.

Let's see how this works..

My name's Nicole, and I'm a craft addict.

The purpose of this blog is to document the trials and tribulations of my venture into quilting, along with any other project that comes along (and believe me, it happens pretty often). I'm not much of a writer, so who knows how this will go. Let's go!
